Basically, I have a 16" carbine with a carbine length free float hand guard.  I want to remove that and put on a mid-length Magpul MOE hand guard.  Currently I plan on keeping the carbine gas system and using a low profile block, and a clamp on front sight post.  My question is: How will/ does the hand guard cap work being that it will now be seperate from the gas system?  I mean, will it simply be stuck between the hand guard and the sight post?

Yes, but when the hand guard isnt installed, the hand guard cap will slide between your gas block and clamp on block.

Okay, that's what I thought.  Just wanted to make sure that was right.  Something that loose on a rifle just doesn't seem natural, had to ask.  Thank you for the reply.

You can always tap and put a screw in the gas block hole of your clamp on front sight.

I have done it and it worked quite well.

you can cut down a piece of gas tube so that it's just long enough to go into the handguard cap. Then pin the gas tube in the clamp on front sight as you normally would. That should keep it in place.

Use a roll pin from you local hardware store.

That's how I got one of my A2 front sights FROM CMMG recently. The roll pin was sticking out about a quarter inch, works well, keeps the hand-guard cap from turning.
