| Rifle length is longer than the CAR system & less stressful on the operating parts. So in theory rifle lengths are more "reliable," however, CAR length uppers these days are built fairly well in comparison. You also get a longer sight radius with the rifle length. You don't see too many dissy's around compared to SBR's, 16 & 20's, but they're out there. Which is better is subjective & dependent upon your mission and/or personal preference in a rifle. |
About 4"........... a car gas system is better in a 16" barrel we believe because it gives the gas a chance to build up behind the round before it leaves the end of the barrel ... the rifle lenght gas system on a 16" barrel puts the gas port about 2.5 " behind the end of the barrel..not leaving much length for build up ... hope this helps Joe |

I have the CAR gas system, as well as 2 midlength as systems in 16" barrels, and 3 16" barrels with full length rifle gas systems. I haven't had functioning issues with any of them, but I do like the longer handguards on the midlength and rifle length. My next build is going to be a Midlength or Rifle FF over a CAR length gas block. Different (gas) strokes for different folks...
