Alright I'm trying to decide at what distance to zero my sights.

Aimpoints are parallax free at 50yds right?  My Aimpoint is currently zeroed at 50yds, and if that's the case, I'll leave it at that.

Now here's the thing.  I mainly shoot indoors locally at 25 yards.  There is a better range open once a month that has 50yds and 100yds, which is where I zeroed the Aimpoint, and also played around on the 100yd, which of course shot high.  Doesn't bother me because I rarely shoot 100yds.

Now, is there a way to take advantage of my BUIS's adjustable wheel to click up or down to go between 25, 50, and 100yd?  Or should I just use the IBZ...

It's currently set to bottom out 4 clicks below 6/3, with 6 clicks between "6/3" and "4."

Brings me to another question, the 4 clicks.  If I start at 6/3 and go down, I hear 3 physical clicks, and after the 3rd click, it moves about the distance of another click, but doesn't make a sound.

Going from that, up to 6/3, I hear 4 physical clicks.  Should I be bottoming it out that far? Or 4 physical clicks down...?

I established this as an aid, with a couple simple conversions.

If someone has a similar chart in yards, it would be greatly appreciated.  Or at least tell me the difference in inches between 25 yards, 50yards, and 100 yards.  In upward of 100 doesnt hurt either.

I would zero at 50 yards.  That will put you about 1" low at 25 yards and 2" high at 100.

I'll probably leave the red dot at 50 yds then.

Is there any way I can take advantage of the elevation wheel on my BUIS to shoot at 25, 50, 100, etc..

Known amount of clicks?

Norma has an online ballistic calculator I use all the time. Just click on define your own bullet, plug in the bullet weight and the ballistic coefficient, the sight height and muzzle velocity, and finally your zero distance. The ballistic coefficient for 55gr fmj is .243 and your sight height is 2.6 inches.

It will show you trajectory out to 600 yards. You can plug in different variables and have lots of fun.

Hope this helps.

That's definitely a neat little script.  Thanks.

Now if I can just figure out how to use my adjustable BUIS to its full potential, I'll be alright.  Like clicking up and down between yardages to hit dead on, or close to.

<sigh> You didn't read the other aticles on the site did you...

Check this one out if you A2 type sight is already set for the IBSZ: How to set your IBSZ sight, so it will be dead on at 25y

So if I bottom out at 6/3 -4 clicks, and zero at 25 using the "4" setting, I'll be dead on at 25yd using the "4" and dead on at 50 yds bottoming it out at 6/3 -4clicks?

What about 100?

Since at the 50y setting you're only going to be an inch and a half or so off I'm betting you won't notice a difference.

Now if think you're Carlos Hathcock or something i'd say bottom the carry handle out at 6/3-6 and use the -6 setting for 100, but you'd lose the 600y capability.

If you're not shooting in DCM type matches the less than 2" offset isn't going to make a difference.

Good point.  I can't even shoot 2" at 100 yards.  I'm all over the place, but they're all within headshot size :)

So the 25 yard zero mentioned above is the same as the IBZ, just zeroing at a different position and distance?  Just at "4" since 25 and 400 should hit roughly on the same spot.

-4 clicks = 50 yds, 6/3 = 600/300, 4 = 400yd/25?

If this is correct, I'm set :)

Now, I'm still curious as to the clicks.  Should I hear FOUR PHYSICAL clicks going down from 6/3 to bottoming out?   I only hear 3, and then it moves about the distance of another click I think.  Is that considered -4?

From that position, it's 4 clicks going up phsyically.

Awesome.  Thanks man!

By the way, I aimed out my back window and watched the aperature as I made that 4th click down, and it does appear that it moves down a little bit more, so I'll count that as the fourth click.
