I'm wanting to install a Tango Down vertical grip on a RR Entry Tactical and I'm using a short
1913 Rail. The question is do I remove the heat shield from the handguard and then install the bolts through the rail into the handguard or do I run the bolts through the handguard and the heatshield?  Has anyone else installed a vertical grip this way? It was cheaper than aftermarket handguards.  Yeah, I'm tight. hinking.gif
Thanks

When I did mine I took the heat shield out and put the nuts inside. I then put the heat shield back on.

I have since taken it off when I got the Y.H.M. rails.

I think you'll find the Tango Down VFG won't work on 'bolt on rails' w/o some serious time with some sandpaper...

Thanks for the tip Forest.  What would you suggest in the way of handguards for the Tango Down?
I'm a little shy of the work involved in installing a FF, also the $$$ for a good handguard although I'm sure it would be worth it in the end.

Two choices come to mind.

For around $230-$250 you can get the Troy MRF-C which is a free floating unit.  Very easy to install, very solid.

This is an example of a Troy with the Tango Down (not mine - but a pic I found on this site)

For just over $100 you can get the YHM 2 Piece Carbine Handguard unit.  This doesn't free float but the rails are now to spec and will fit the T.D.  These directly replace the plastic handguards.

Both are good units.  I currenlty have a MRF-R on one firearm and I'm going to be installing the YHM units on an upper I just finished.

This is an example of the YHM (with no rail covers) installed - again not mine, but this was found on this site:

For a cheaper but still solid rail , go with the YHM 2 pc.  I helped install a pr. on my buddies
AR , and it really is a nice set up.
