I'm getting ready to purchase a docter optic reflex to mount to my acog but was wondering if anyone has experience with this sight.  I know there is better, but right now this is my only option due to price point.  A 3.5 and 7 moa are the two options.  I would not ordinarily go anything bigger than 4 moa on a RDS, but with such a small window to view the dot in i'm thinking it would help to pick it up easier since you can't get a solid cheek weld on the stock.  What do you guys think?

I had one back when I had a scope mount on my handgun, I had the 7MOA dot and it wasn't actually that bad, nice and bright and easy to pick up, although I wouldn't want to use it for anything past 75 yards or so.

They are VERY light, which is nice and the window shroud is just a piece of sheet metal so if you're concentrating on the target you can't even see it (looks like a floating glass window).

Of course there are durability issues, they are built pretty tough (can be used on a handgun slide) but if it gets bumped or knocked too hard it could be damaged.

I think it would be a decent choice for a backup sight, Personally I might go with the 3.5MOA dot, since I didn't find it too hard to keep the dot in view with a handgun, on a rifle (even without a cheek wield) it would be fairly easy to keep the dot on screen, and since it uses a double glass lens like Aimponts, the position of the dot on the screen is not an issue.

Mine was nice and bright in bright daylight too, It didn't wash out unless you were looking at the blue sky or something.

I've got one of the dark earth 7moa models from CDNN on one of my guns.  This particular rifle has a scope on it already so I mounted it on a 45degree offset (ride side) to try that style out.  I've only done a little run and gun style practice where I shoot but so far I like it.  The Docter is plenty bright enough and easy to use for CQB shooting although I'm not sold on having something hanging off the side of my gun like that.  One thing I noticed, for me anyways, is that I am faster rotating it back and forth between vertical (scope) and side (Docter) using a modified race style grip ala Magpul Carbine style.  I think this gives me more control over the weapon.  Folks make fun of them, but it seems to work for me so I've been working with it.  I may change later, but i just didn't like having it sitting up on top of my scope.

As always, YMMV.

I appreciate the info guy.  I'll probably go with the 3.5 moa version only because I'm worried the 7 will be too big to hit hit anything accurately out to 50 yards, which is about the max range I see my self using it for.

I've really looked at the off set mounts and agree it feels more natural to maintain you cheek weld and just rotate your rifle, but I'm worried that in getting out of cars and in a CQB setting it would take a solid impact sooner or later and likely be damaged.

I also looked at the MRD but it's quite bit more than what I can get the doc optic for.  I also considered the Burris fast fire due to the ability to turn the unit off when not in use thus extended the run time, but I'm worried it isn't as rugged as the doc.  I don't have any solid info to support the idea that the doc is better than the fast fire, but I know trijicon originally sold Acogs equipped with docs before the RMR came out.

Again if you have any info please school me up before I hit "Buy it now" and the wife yells at me.
