Being new to the AR thing, I was wondering.  I have a DPMS Panther Carbine A2.

Can I purchase any normal complete upper and put it on my lower ?  Mine is .223/5.56 and I was wondering if I could buy an upper in .308 and just slap it on my gun and shoot .308

Thanks,
J

A 308 upper will not fit on 5.56 lower. Any other 5.56 upper should work on any 5.56 lower though.

You can do a bunch of other calibers, 6.8 spc, 6.5 grendel, .50 beowolf, .458 socom, and a bunch of others. The .308 is one of the only calibers that can't fit right into a 5.56 lower receiver.

On the other hand we just had a DPMS upper that would not fit an RRA lower.

RRA lowers are not milspec? I did not know that. What exactly is not milspec about them? I only ask because I was going to get one, but I may have to look somewhere else. Should I stay away from RRA?

so a lower that is stamped 5.56 can take a 6.8 upper. that is good info to know while searching for a upper.
