I went to 2 differant compitetions this weekend. I let my son use my old Colt SP1. It was made in 79 and I have owned it since 90. I am guessing the round count is close to 10k.
At least 3 times I watched him shot and he had double shots. I don't think it was a slam fire due to the longer length of times between shots. I was using a Bushmaster and the same ammo with no problem so its not the ammo. Is the sear getting worn out or what? The SO was starting to get concerned with the situation. Any ideas where to start looking? |

The SP-1 came with a different type of disconnector/spring than the current standard norm.
If the trigger sear and both sears on the hammer are still in good condition, Replace both the disconnector and the disco spring, and this should solve the problem. IF the sears are worn, then replace the entire FCG. Note: the SP-1 is a large hole FCG (.171 and not the mil spec .154). when ordering parts, make sure to tell them that you need large hole FCG parts. This should walk you through swapping the parts, http://www.ar15.com/content/guides/assembly/lower/ |

Mine was doing this as well, but a little more consistently. I could pull the upper, pull the trigger and release the hammer, and cock the hammer while still holding the trigger, release the trigger and it would release the hammer again.
I just replaced the disconnector and hammer, and now it seems to shoot single shots. Now, when I hold the trigger and cock the hammer, it does not release, but it will not release at all. The only way I can get the hammer to release is to pull the pin and slowly pull the hammer and spring assembly out. I have yet to replace the trigger itself, but it sounds like thats the next thing I will have to do, according to what was said above (havent done it because I dont have one here). All the springs are right according to the guides here and elsewhere on the web. May have a buddy look at it just to get a second opinion, but what else could be causing it, if anything? BTW, I did compare the the new and old hammers and disconnectors together and saw no difference other than wear/dirt from shooting. This lower has less than 300 rounds through it, so it cant have that much wear on it. |

The hammer and disconnector did not fix issue, made it so it was a single shot rifle. Replaced trigger and its good to go. |
