Are there any drop in rails that are considered free floating? Something that can be installed without removal of a fixed FSB.

There are a lot of two piece free float rails that can be installed without taking off the FSB if you're willing to cut off the delta ring assembly. Centurion, Midwest Industries, Daniel Defense.

Daniel Defense Omega is the only one I know of that can be installed without having to cut off the delta ring, but there may be more out there now.

Samson Star-C and Daniel Defense Omega

I'm sure there are others as well

I had forgotten about the omega, and also know of the Troy Charlie rail. I didn't know if any knew ones came on the market.

The ones that you cut off the delta ring, the rails just clamp on to the barrel nut?

The Samson top rail clamps on the barrel nut and the bottom rail locks into the top and is held together with screws. If you go to Samson's website they have a video up.

Yes that's right they are typically a two piece system. The DD is good and I've heard good things from the Midwest Industry guys too.

I was in the same boat with my first AR, thought it through and got a DD Omega X 12.0 FSP. Got a few tools and installed it. Locks up nice.

Not for me, for a friend who isn't comfortable taking apart his upper and doesn't want to pay for a one piece rail and then add on the gunsmithing fees.
