Hi, just wondering how many of you dry fire your AR and if it is acceptable or not to do so? Mainly when putting away after cleaning & such in the house, to release the spring pressure off the hammer. Thank's

Fire away no problem..just make sure your weapon is clear prior to pulling the trigger...

The weapons in our armory are always stored with the hammer in the fired position (I would assume it is to relieve tension on the spring like you suggested).

It's fine to dry fire the gun... just don't dry fire the lower by itself; ease the hammer down with your thumb.

Dry firing is fine. If you want, you can use dummy rounds (A-Zoom are pretty good).
I recommend getting some dummy rounds though so you can practice clearing missfires. Have a friend load the mag for you randomly with live ammo and dummy rounds.

Magpul sells dummy rounds. They're only ones I'll trust in my Carbines.
