Well, to some of you this will come across as a dumb question, however I am worried about it.

I am working on building up a 16" middy, and I had assembled the complete Noveske upper on a friends lower to see how it looked. I proceded to do some dry firing drills around the house to show off how nice the gun handled. I had cleaned all of the oil out of the upper and wiped the oil off the bolt carrier group before assembling the rifle and forgot to lube it up again before doing the dry firing drills. I cycled the action (completely dry) a few dozen times, allowing the bolt to slam home every time I re-cocked the action.

I am worried that I might have caused some weird/premature wear spots in the upper now (I noticed that some of the anodizing/dry film seemed to be worn through in certain areas). If the gun had been fired extensively prior to be being cycled dry I wouldn't be too concerned, its just that its brand new and I understand that the action components are rough and need to be broken in.

So what does the hive think, is this an issue or just a figment of my imagination?

Dry fire all you want, unless something is actually broken I seriously doubt you hurt anything.

You're OK.  Just lube generously before actually firing and it'll be gtg.

It's broken and worthless now.

Its only going to wear more. Which is not a bad thing really. Those spots that are starting to show already are where you need to apply oil during actual firing. and with doing that you are kind of breaking it in. I did that a lot with my rifle and its perfectly fine.... and actually my carrier rides so smooth in the upper that its like glass. I should also mention that my rifle had only jammed 1 time in thousands of rounds(and that was on its 3rd or 4th shot ever)
