New to the ar here, sorry. I read about gas key and castle nut staking, where are the gas key and the castle nut? Are these things you see when the rifle is field stripped or do you have to do further disassembly?

Castle nut is on the tube of the stock and the gas key is on the BCG

only rifles with colapsible stocks have castle nuts.  It is the nut that tightens the buffer tube to the receiver.  Solid stocks don't use them.

When you field strip your rifle, you will see the bolt carrier group.  On top of the carrier group there is what is called the gas key.  It slides over the gas tube where it enter the upper receiver.  There are two bolts that hold it to the top of the carrier.

HTH!

Correct - if life goes well you'll never remove it.
