| Looking for a good dump pouch. Can be a drop-leg, belt-hung, or whatever. I've perused the usual suppliers and was wondering if anybody has something special they're particularly pleased with. Something with a couple of compartments rather than one big one. Some sort of top lid might be nice. It'll be used for combat-style shooting/open range where there's no place to set down the empties. I don't mind spending some money as long as it's well built. Show me whatcha got. Thanks. |
| Everyone I've talked to really likes the Maxpedition Rollypolly (sp?). You'll be hard pressed to find a dumper with multiple pockets and a lid, though you may find one with a shock corded opening for better retention. You need to take into consideration they're designed for quick insertion during combat, and multiple pockets and a cover would preclude those 2 goals. |

Chlorofiend - Thanks for the feedback. I'd looked at the Maxpedition but wasn't sure about how it might work for me. It's good to know everybody else is happy with it. You're probably right about the lid and compartments. The only dumps I've seen with both of those features are much larger drop-leg/subload, leg-strap type bags...too big and bulky for my purposes. I just placed an order for a RolyPoly; the compactness of the rollup design might be just the ticket. Thanks again. |
| You'll like the Maxpedition. I use an Eagle Dropleg Dumper on one of my rigs, it's great, it's big, it holds a ton, it's big, did I mention it's big? I use the Rollypoly with my SKD Howe rig, which is sorta a "minimalist" outfit anyway. Works fine and is really unobtrusive when rolled up. Nice unit. |

Wayne - Funny you should mention the SKD/Howe chest rig. That's exactly what I intend to put the Rolly-Polly on. I use my SKD rig for 3 gun and open range shooting; it's also my SHTF rig. Nice and light, yet it carries plenty. How you like yours, and how do you use it? Is the medium size Rolly-Polly the way to go? |
I use the Howe rig on the job and it's become one of my SHTF rigs. I really like it's minimalist approach. The problem I've seen is some folks buying it and then trying to overload it and attach lots of gear...which sorta defeats the purpose of the thing. I actually use the large Rolly-Polly. Rolled up it's not much bigger then the medium, but I like the larger size of it. I got used to the Eagle pouch, so I like lots of room. As far as how I have mine rigged, I first encounter the Howe rig on one of my MIO instructors, who had attended CSAT and adopted it there. He had his rigged up exactly as Paul Howe had his. Here is a link to a past CSAT Info Letter where Mr. Howe shows his rig, modified to carry a Safariland G-21 holser: www.combatshootingandtactics.com/published/info-letters/06/CSATUpdate_Jan06.pdf Mine is rigged mostly the same as what you see, except I don't carry a grenade |

Got the Maxpedition RollyPoly today. It's slick. I'm using the medium size, which will be big enough as a mag dump. I won't be carrying any more than 9 mags in the Eagle/Howe rig (plus one in the rifle = 10). The medium RollyPoly holds 7. So when I reload, the first 6 empty mags will go in the RollyPoly. The other 4 empties will go back into the double mag pouches on the chest rig. It's perfect. The large size would be too big for my purposes. Like you, I'll use the RollyPoly on my belt. It's easier to reach at that lower position on my weak side. It WILL however mount to the chest rig just fine using MALICE straps. It's just too high there for my taste. Thanks for the info on Maxpedition. It's just enough of a dump pouch without being too bulky/heavy/cumbersome. Built very well and comes with a lifetime guarantee. Can't beat that. |
