Hey guys,

Just got two Mega Uppers to go on some of my mega lowers and they came stripped. I installed the bolt assist without issue, and now id like to put in the dust covers. Is there any easy way to do this? It looks like the spring needs to be tensioned around the pin. Also there looks to be a C clip on the pin to keep it from working free. My question is how to get the c-clip back on one i have the pin and dust cover on.

I looked in the guides but didnt see anything.

Thanks
Pat

I just fixed the dust cover on my M4gery last night. I used a small set of needle nose pliers and some patience to put the little clip on.

Install the c-clip first!

Figure out which way the spring needs to be tensioned to flip the cover open... then plan on getting that wrong at least once.

Position the port cover door in the upper and slide the bar (with the c-clip end towards the barrel end) halfway through.

While holding onto the long short leg of the spring, slide it on the bar, then spin a revolution to tension the spring and push the rest of the bar through the port door until it bottoms out on the c-clip.

Seems like you need three hands sometimes - but it can be done.
Good luck!

Im not sure i understand where the C-clip goes actually now, i cant find a good photo of a dust cover area, and im not at my parents house with my rifles handy to check on those.

The way i see it  the part with the C clip goes to the barrel end of the upper reciever, with the C clip inside the ears right up against the dust cover. Is this correct? (dustcover pin ear, dustcover, spring, dustcover, clip, dustcover pin ear). . .lol dunno if that was clear to anyone else.

Or does the C-clip go ourside of the ear? Im just wondering what keeps the pin from backing out if the C-clip is outside of the ear.

Thanks guys
Pat

Wrong.  The last three of your sequence should go; dustcover, dustcover pin ear, clip.  The barrel nut stops the pin from going forward and the clip stops it from going backwards.

Once, WOW you are good! The first time for me was like the first time. Your all serious and try all different ways but it just does not work out like you thought!

After a few times....... it goes IN real nice and you feel like an old pro!

USMC223, practice makes perfect.

Yep. Clip is outside.

Also, this pic shows I misspoke earlier. You grasp the stubby end of the spring while the end with the long leg gets slid on first... the reason being the stubby end is MUCH easier to rotate a full revolution in such a tight space.

edited to update pic.
