I'm new to AR 15s and need some earmuffs. I did a search on them and have about 2000 to choose from. Can you help me pick out a pair. I would like to keep it around $100, unless those are all crap. Then I will spend over $200 if I need to. I would like to get the electronic type where you can hear what is going on around you. Just point me in the right direction, like I said there are so many to choose from. Who has some that are bad and I need to stay away from, or who has the best. Thanks Steve

Indoor? Outdoor?

The Impact Sports are awesome for the price. Double up with foam plugs indoors.

I usually wear plugs when I'm by myself, but when with others I've been using these for a couple of years and they've been great so far: https://www.amazon.com/Howard-Leight-Amplification-Electronic-R-01526/dp/B001T7QJ9O/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1469798386&sr=8-1&keywords=howard+leight+impact+sport
One nice thing about these Howard Leights is at max it actually amplifies ambient noise.

What I use. You will not find any electronic ear muffs that will not interfere with looking down an AR15 sight, but having a lower 1/3 co-witness optic is better than an absolute co-witness optic.

i've been really happy with the howard leight ones, as long as your eye wear ear stocks fits under muffs well.

The 3M Peltors from Lowes/Homie Depot work great and you can have tunes/comms.

Just started my search for electronic ear muffs this morning and so far it seems Peltor and Howard Leight are pretty standard names that come up. I put together the following, hopefully it's a little helpful:

Howard Leight 1030110 Sync
$27.64 w/ prime
NRR 25

https://www.amazon.com/Howard-Leight-1030110-Blocking-Earmuff/dp/B004U4A5RU
http://www.howardleight.com/ear-muffs/sync-stereo-earmuff

Howard Leight Impact Sport
$40.97 w/ prime
NRR 22

https://www.amazon.com/Howard-Leight-Amplification-Electronic-R-01526/dp/B001T7QJ9O/ref=sr_1_1?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1471275665&sr=1-1&keywords=howard+leight+impact+sport

3M Peltor Sport Tactical 100
$55.00
NRR 22

https://www.amazon.com/Peltor-Tactical-Electronic-Hearing-Protector/dp/B00NAG4WX2/ref=sr_1_1?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1471275786&sr=1-1&keywords=peltor+sport+tactical+100

The Howard Leight Sync model is the cheapest with the highest NRR of the bunch at 25. I've always heard, "cheaper ain't always cheaper" and now I'm wondering what else to take into account in consideration of earmuffs...

Peltor Comtac and Sordin Supreme are the top dogs. Having owned both I prefer Peltor Comtac.

i think what is boils down to is personal preference as to over the head or behind the head bands. all these models works well for their prices.

i have noticed that once the batteries get low both my peltor and HL's will make horrible high pitched sounds randomly and when trying to shut down on gun shot noise.

I have the Peltors but added the gel ear cups.  Wow! what a difference.  I can wear them all day because they are so comfortable.  Noise attenuation is excellent.
