Which is better to use... the allen screw or the thumb screw when mounting?

Thumb screw for ease of use. One can use a coin to unscrew if needed. I personally use the allan wrench and have my 512 attached to a LaRue QD mount!

I prefer the thumb screw.

Since I'm strictly low speed high drag, I use the T-screw.

Neither.

Spend the cash for a G G & G lever mount. You'll be glad you did. Secure and very easy to remove.

I use the regular thumb screw, tightened down with a coin or pocket knife or whatever's handy.
