I have been looking at an EO Tech for my A3 type Bushmaster. I have a dumb question in the function/installation of this sight. Does the EOTech need to be in-line with the end iron sight in the optical picture, like you with if you just had front and back iron sights? I am sure it dosent but a second guessing myself now since everybody has there EOTech right on the flattop leaving the front sight in the way.

I was trying out an AR-15 of one of the guys I shoot with and he had mounted his EOTech installed to work in tandem with the iron sights. It felt like you had to line up all three back sight, hologram and front sight in the sight picture. Researching online all of the pictures I have seen have the EOTech either installed to work “co-witness” in tandem with the iron sights or as a replacement to the care hand but still directly to the flat top.

I’m I smoking grass or would it not just be way easier to pull the carry handle off and mount the EOTech on a couple risers (B.M.A.S. Scope Risers YHM-22 for example) in order to get the sight hologram image clean of the front iron sight? Even if one wanted to see the front iron with the holographic circle would installing the EO Tech on these risers not put the placement of the holographic circle closer to where to original iron sight circle would have been on the care handle in relation to the flattop?

I am sure I am missing something since every install I have seen has the EOTech on the top or our front of the care handle or no handle and it is directly on the flat top. I just can’t figure out why. What am I missing?

co witnessing is a personal preference.

some pro's feel it is a must have, other disagree.

i have 2 on different rifles. one cowitnesses the other does not. when properly aligned yes the reticle dot is typically over the front sight post when you have a proper cheek weld. the great thing about the site is where ever you see the reticle is where the bullet is going. make off hand or irregular shooting much easier and faster.
