Originals or repros what do these cost?

Originals pop up from time to time usually around the $130-$150 range. I don't know of anyone making reproductions

$130-$150?
I think I'll stick with a standard buffer 'cuz you can't see it anyway.

And it's not worth using

But I do wish I'd saved the one I threw away in 1974. Who could have known they were going to be worth that kind of money.

I paid $135 for the one in my 601 replica, but I'm afraid to shoot it.  There must be a reason why we don't use them anymore, and it probably isn't because they're great...

Just make up a shooting bench with the AR strapped to it; aim it at your bird feeder (put some seed in); tie a string to the trigger; and wait for the squirrels to come...

I have the same concern.
Should I pull mine out of the gun and use a newer buffer to shoot with?

I have shot my 601 replica, approx 250 rounds, with the edgewater in it with no problems.  What do you guys think could happen?

Nothing...in a semi-auto rifle.  In full auto, the result would be/was an extremely high cyclic rate of fire and bolt carrier "bounce"-induced misfires.  That is why the current buffer has the sliding internal weights ("dead-blow" effect to dampen bolt carrier bounce) and is heavier overall (increased reciprocating mass to reduce cyclic rate).

Thanks guys,
that answers that question.

+1

I may go out and shoot the thing now.  My only other worry is that the A2 lower I modified blows up...

My 1969 SP1 came with one that was about 35 years old when I bought it with I don't know how many rounds through it.  Still looks perfect.
