[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Effective 7.62 ar setup?

I have heard everyone say the 223 out of a short barrel is not effective or, not very effective so...how effective would a 7.62 out of a 7 1/2" barrel be, or would you go with 11 1/2 or so? I am thinking of doing a 7.62 SBR project and want to get as short as I can without being ineffective. My max range 100yds. Thanks--

A 7.5 or 11.5 tube would be ideal for a gunfight in a phone booth, you could just burn your adversary to death, they would definatly have bloody ears from the concussion, beyond that it would be almost worthless.

What about a .45 ACP upper? Might do well at close range out of a short barrel but I don’t know about longer range? No idea really just babbling.
