I finally received my engraved ejection port cover yesterday. I installed it on the upper receiver but I have a possible issue. When trying to close the port, the cover will not snap into place. If I press the cover retainer down, then I can get it to close. Also, pushing on the port from the inside to open it, takes a considerable amount of pressure as well. Is this normal? Will this improve with a little bit of break-in or, do I need to grind down the upper slightly to allow the cover to snap in easier.

Just so you know, the upper is a PSA flat top and the ejection port cover is from DPMS.

If the original cover worked properly, then I would say the problem is in the cover. I would ABSOLUTELY NOT grind my $100.00+ upper in order to fit a $20.00 aftermarket part.

Bad cover most likely. I would not grind my upper to fit a bad cover.

My rule is always grind on the cheapest part and since the cover costs less than the upper, I would modify it first or try and figure out what is wrong with it.

I would contact the vendor who sold you the cover just to see what they say about it. Maybe they will send you another, then again maybe not. Doesn't hurt to ask considering they 'might' or might not guarantee compatibility. It just depends on their policy.

before you grind anything.......place your thumb on the rear portion of the port cover and try closing it with pressure there...as far as you can get from the center latch.....I buy a LOT of upper recievers and this is a common affliction .....just press it lke that repeatedly a few times and it will loosen up and close easily...............

Yeah Bob...I have had some that are a little "sticky" for a lack of a better word.  If you can actually close that sucker, then all is well.  Put the entire rifle together and then cycle it about 50 times with the charging handle and closing it.  Even the stickiest have worked out within about 30-40 open/closings.  It's just a little tollerance issue between the upper and the port door.  I would grind on nothing until you have to...Then follow the advise above from Sigman.
