I couldn't find a thread about it, is the 1x4 worth it? I'm kinda looking into it for my mk18. It's only worth if it you can afford it. That might not be the answer you're looking for. If spending $2k on an optic could be a mistake down the road, then no, it is not worth it. An ACOG would serve almost as well. Or an Eotech or Aimpoint with a flip-to-side magnifier. Honestly, I love my Elcan. Sometimes I think that maybe I should have bought something else, but there's no way you could pry this thing out of my hands. I really do love it, and it works pretty well for almost anything you may want out of a combat type weapon. It's not perfect at any one thing, for sure, but it's good at most things. Optical quality is extremely high. |
| I am ordering an Elcan OS4x in the morning. I have been researching for awhile now. I do not want to have to end up messing with the bulb replacement down the road with the trijicons and I here they are suspect in certain lighting situations. I do not want to have to tie a chemlite to the top of my scope. I also looked at the TA02 LED but not sure if that will be around very long and I dont not want to but something that mat be just a current novelty for trijicon. I choose to go with the fixed elcan 4x and on down the road I am going to get the rds on top or the 45% rds or aimpoint to combo with it. That will be about the same price as the Elcan 1-4x. |

Couple of archived threads: http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_3_18/589891_Elcan_Specter_or_AP_T_1_with_3X_magnifier_.html&page=1&anc=bottom#bottom http://www.ar15.com/archive/topic.html?b=3&f=18&t=555668 http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_3_18/496137_.html&light= I posted rather lengthy responses in all three. Suffice to say - I own two, and would get a third if I could afford it. I really like 'em, and have used them for both work and play.

| I do a 50/200 as that's what I do with all my 5.56 optics. As with all calibrated reticles it will work well once you decide how to zero it and then see what the stadia give you. Will it work "as labeled" with a 10.5 rifle? Have to say I'm unsure. I would bet it's close aout to 200 yds but I'd just zero it like you want it and learn what the BDC lines actually intersect with in terms of distance for your rifle AND your selected ammo. |

Awesome, thanks guys, I think I am going to order one, but can't decide what color. Ive noticed some fde models look brighter than others, probably just the lighting. Augee, is yours pretty close to the fde of the DD ris rail? The Gen. III is. The Gen. II, not so much. Current production variants "should" match the RIS II pretty well, since they use the Gen. III housing - but I haven't seen one of the DFOVs in person. ~Augee |
