So I ordered one of these from Midway because they're on clearance for $699 with free shipping.

What am I in for?  I saw a couple places that says eye relief is very short, at about 1.5".  I'm not too worried, because that's the same as a 4x32 ACOG, Also, I can always put it on my Tavor.

I've heard that the glass is quite nice, and the reticle seems very well laid out as well.  It should be delivered today, but what says the hive?

No clue but I'm curious. Post pics and what you think

Okay, this thing's pretty neat.

It's got an etched reticle, and it's powered by a CR123 battery.  The manual claims that there are 4-5 NVD settings, and the other 9 are visible.  Well, maybe I need to adjust the rheostat in it, because I need to turn it 9 clicks until I can see a dim red glow.  Even at full power, if I look outside on a sunny day, it gets washed out while looking at the sky.  But the black reticle is very nice.

The reticle:

There's a BDC out to 800 meters, with horizontal lines like ACOG.  Each line corresponds to the width across a man's shoulders at that range.  It also has a Rapid Aiming Feature (RAF) for 100meters.  The RAF is four bullet shapes in an open X shape.  The inside of the circle made by RAF is a 16MOA circle, the width from armpit to armpit, the manual claims.  Neat feature.  There are dots along the horizontal stadia line, though I don't know what intervals they are at.  The manual doesn't say.

*Note:  There's also a "marksman" model, that has external adjustment caps, and a reticle without the BDC.  You're supposed to dial in your windage and elevation.

The reticle also has a range finder in the lower left corner.  It is based off of the distance from a belt buckle to the top of a man's head.  It's calibrated 300-600 meters.

It feels like the eye relief is a little greater than a 4x32 ACOG.  Maybe about 2 inches.  The tube has a squared-off feel to it, almost like an old TV set with rounded corners.

The body:

Without grabbing a scale  it feels similar in size to an ACOG 4x32, but blockier.  Almost like they stretched out an Aimpoint.  The dovetail form the sight body into the mount looks very much like an ACOG mount.  The adjustments are capped, and require a screwdriver or coin to adjust.  They're not low profile at all, but the sight has rubber bumpers that help to streamline the shape and avoid snags.  What I can't figure out is why they cut Picatinny rail sections into them.  I have no clue what they'd put there, individual packets of maple syrup?

There's an ARD that mounts internally to the sight.  Pretty neat, but it does cut down on the brightness.  I never liked them very much.

I just took it outside, along with a TA31H-G ACOG.  It's dusk out, and it has pretty good light-gathering abilities.  I don't know if it's quite as clear as an ACOG, but they were very close.  It's very nice to be able to adjust the brightness of the reticle.  The entire BDC is also illuminated, as opposed to the ACOG's.  I did some presentation drills with it in the garage.  Going from a dark area to a lit area, the ACOG's reticle (mine's green) may wash out.  The etched reticle of the Elcan's doesn't wash out at all.

Though the eye relief is a touch better than the ACOG's, because it doesn't cantilever back as far, you may not be able to mount a BUIS behind the optic.

For $700, it's a tough optic to beat.  I grabbed a TA11F off of Amazon for $800 last year, and I thought that was a great deal.  This also feels like as good of a deal to me.

Can't wait to shoot it.

Well, I think I found out why these are on sale.  When I opened it, it had an Energizer CR123 with it in separate packaging.  I grabbed one of my Surefire 123s from my .mil days, because I was certain that it would be older than the Energizer.  Well, I'm cleaning the kitchen, and I pick up the Energizer package.  Best by 2014.  And it has a dent in the battery.  Nothing like a risk of fire/explosion.  I'm guessing these sights were in some old dusty corner of Midway's warehouse.

Doesn't change the quality of the sight.  I still like it.

I got one as well.
Wish I had grabbed two. Whole lot of sight for the money.

They're back. I didn't get one the first time around, but I ordered when they came back at the same price.
