I'm looking for my first pair of electronic muffs for a carbine class in a few months.  Any recommendations?  Any brands/models to avoid? Thanks!

I have a pair of Caldwell Low profile E-maxx electronic ear muffs.  For the money, I think you would be hard pressed to find  pair that was any better and didn't break the bank.

Caldwell Muffs

If you search google, you can find them for about $25.

My son and I've had ours for about a yr now , I'm well pleased I don't see how the expensive one could be 3-4 times better.

What is annoying is ,all your buddies with the ear plug type,YELLING all the time

I've been looking for electronic in-the-ear plugs, but they are really expensive.  Lots cooler to wear than muffs.  I really couldn't find any, so I tried the EP4 earplugs from Surefire and Ive been really happy.  I  shot indoor ranges with pistols, even a 500SW and it felt good.  Shot an AR at an indoor range righ tnext to a wall and it worked.  While not as good at transmitting voices as a eletronic system, they are set up so that they only let some frequencies and dBs thru.  Seems to work for me, I've stopped looking for electronic ear plugs, since these are like $15 a pair.

I purchased a set of Peltor Tactical Sport hearing protection.

They're okay for indoor use and wonderful outdoors.

I have a hard time shooting a rifle/shotgun with the larger ear-muff style hearing protection, i usually use the little foam ear plugs. Is there an electronic hearing protection device that is small like an ear plug?

MSA Sordine Pro or Peltor ComTac II. Get the "hygiene kit" for whichever you choose as it makes the ear muffs more comfortable.

Walkers Game Ear.  They make muff, behind the ear, and in the hear units.  Walkers is the orignator of hearing amplification and protect.

I've been looking to get a pair of electronic muffs. The Howard Leight's seem to be priced right. May have to give them a try.
Really not looking to give CTD any of my money though. Will have to search for other dealers.
I really didn't want to spend the money for the Peltors even though they get great reviews, so I'm glad I found this thread.

I'm also using these.  They work as advertised, but the NRR is a bit low for my taste.  I use them in combination with some Westone Musician's Plugs.

On their own, they're fine for pistol use.  When some is shooting a braked rifle and you're off to the side, you'll want something a bit stronger (hence the plugs).  I'd buy them again.
