I just recently got a S&W M&P 15 with iron sights. I'm going to sight it in with the iron sights but would like to get a red dot sight after.  Is there a entry level red dot sight that is reliable but won't break the bank? Looking also to use one on my M&P 15-22.  Only experience is with A2 iron sights.  Thanks everyone!

Haha not sure if serious.

Primary Arms makes a decent entry level red dot.

Our MP-15 has a Vortex SPARC, working great for 2-years.  My whole family can do 3" to 4" groupings at 50 yards; w/ a full clip sitting on a bench.  The Red Dot is around $200 on OpticsPlanet.

I also purchased the 3x Swivel Magnifier.  That was a complete waste of money.  It allows me to better see the target 100 yards out, but I'm no more accurate w/ it than without.  I also find it challenging to shoot w/ both eyes open, when the Magnifier is in place.  That AR has taken a pounding and one of the adjuster knobs was dented significantly and it's still going strong.  I'm also still on my first battery.

Good chance I'm going to get a second one for a short barrel AR Pistol for my wife.

Note: zero comparison between the Vortex and AimPoint.

Thanks for the feedback!  I'm checking out the sights that have been mentioned.  Thanks!

+1

I wouldn't use it for a duty rifle or anything like that but for the money, it's a great deal. I keep on on my MP 15-22. I think I paid $75 for it.

I just got this from Amazon for $90 and the $10 1" UTG riser.  Primary shows out of stock on both this and their own micro red dot which is just about the same sight.

There is a $20 rebate going on right now--get the form from Bushnell's website.

Don't waste money on cheap chi-com knock-off products. Buy an Aimpoint. You will be glad that you did.

Anything Primary Arms
Vortex Sparc or Strikfire

I would avoid the big tables at the gunshows with chicom knock off optics....

I'm glad I "wasted" money on a Primary Arms red dot, although I don't consider it wasted.  I knew my vision had changed since my younger military days and didn't know if a red dot would still work for me.  It does, sorta, but it's not optimal.  So the PA sits on a range toy and I have a low power variable on my main gun.  I have zero complaints for $80.

You sound like a low round count user. chi-com knowckoffs are ok for play toys but there is a reason they don't show up in hard use carbine classes. If you need to ask why you wouldn't understand anyway.

Definitely not as cool or as tough as you.  Maybe Benning or Panama don't count as "hard use carbine classes" for all of the Tier One Commandos dispensing their wisdom.

Boggles my mind the douchebags on this site.

Sadly, I agree with your observation. The title of the thread is:  "Entry level dot site"

Unfortunately it has turned into scope snob's brag thread.

I've always like the CMore reflex red dots. Used, they can be had for around $100. They can handle 223/556 recoil, look nice, some have different reticles to choose from, and resale value is good. Some even have riser and irons built in for co-exist. They're not as cool as my Aimpoint or Eotech but great for a start.

You never know, you might end up going a different route as far as optics but won't have invested as much money to find that out.

I purchased a Vortex Strikefire for $170. It works very well and simple to use.
