I bought a 511 about two years ago and had to send it back after a year or so because it was eating the Energizer batteries. they sent it back as fixed and it worked well for a few months but the problem is back. Any home fixes or am i out the 400 bucks? I love the optic and it works well for me but shelling out another 400 for a replacement is not going to be in my future.

EOTech advises you to pull the batteries when not in use.  Type N batteries suck, there's no way around it.

I'm considering getting an XPS for my main carbine, after which my 511 will get moved down to my 22 AR.

I actually tried that and flipped the lever forward during storage. The problem is they are used up during training and that's a little fast. As an update Eotech has answered my request on repair and they are going to change the internals at no cost. I'm thankful their customer service seems to be pretty good. I think this will make its way over to the 870 and another Eothech will move onto the rifle.
