What is the general consensus of the EoTech 557? I usually favor Aimpoints, but I have been considering trying an EoTech. Is this typically considered one of the nicer models? It appears to have all of the features and the holdover reticle. Any information would be appreciated.

When I got it, it was kind of an impulse buy. I knew I wanted an EOTech though, just wasn't sure the model, I went to a gun shop and was going to get an XPS until I found out the only models the guy stocked were the red dot ones and none with the circle dot reticle (I don't know why EOTech bothered even making those, if one wants a dot they'd get an Aimpoint). So I got the 557. I gotta say it's not a bad sight but 4 dots are indestingishable without a magnifier. It's also pretty heavy by itself let alone with a magnifier. My recomendation: Get an XPS OPMOD like Blacktide suggested, it's smaller and lighter and has better battery life. BUT DO NOT get the dot version, if you want a dot get an Aimpoint. I'd say only get a 557 if you are also planning on getting a magnifier. 
Got a cheap PA magnifier on there now, I think eventually I'm going to get the Gen II EOTech as the eye relief isn't great on the PA one. |
