Has anyone/does anyone use a magnifier with Eotech? Is so can you post picture and pros/cons. thanks in Advance. |
I want a DBAL-A2.... Why do you need the Surefire IR with it? Is the IR illumination of the unit lacking? |
It's a red filter on the Surefire. |
The setup in the pic isn't cheap: (I would highly recommend the LaRue hardware...if nothing else, get the EOTech mount, until I tried one...I thought I didn't need it Goin' rates... $125 LaRue Magnifier Mount (LT602) $119 LaRue EOTech Mount (LT110) $462 Aimpoint 3X Hunt around...you may find lower cost somewhere. |
Hello Nerves, I have some pics for you as well as some additional info. The EOTech and 3x combo is an outstanding CQB tool with longer range capability. I have one of my weapon systems configured with this set up. PROS: The EOTech will give you what many consider to be the fastest reticle for target acquisition of any CCO. (Close Combat Optic) It has an excellent field of view and is extremely durable. With the 3x behind it, you can focus on the 1 MOA aiming dot in the center for a more precise sight picture on targets at greater ranges. CONS: Length! The EOTech will require you to run a railed forearm or low profile CAR type handguards. The fatter M4 type will not work if you want to mount a 3x behind the EOTech. The EOTech will have to be mounted forward enough that the battery compartment will be over the handguards. #2 is access to the EOTech controls will be partially blocked by the 3x and mount. #3 is the 65MOA outer ring can be a little distracting when making precision shots on moving targets with the 3x in place. With that said, I think the pros far outweigh the cons. The whole idea behind the 3x is to add visual range to your effective weapon range. If you can see 3 times farther, you will be able to put hits on your target with more accuracy and more speed. The pictures below are for illustrative purposes and they will help to show what the EOTech reticle will look like on a man size target at 100 yards. Obviously, if you are only going to shoot at a full size target that never moves, you can hit it with a non-magnified optic all day long. But when that target is moving, hiding and shooting back, the advantage of a magnified optic becomes self-evident. Feel free to shoot me any questions you have about use or with mounting options. We sell the 3x and mount combos (both Aimpoint twist mount and Samson Quick Flip) and we often have specials available for AR15.com members. We can help you pick out the option that will work best for your personal or professional needs. ![]() ![]() ![]() TalonArms.com You can find additional photos as well as customer reviews on our website. |

Wow folks!, This was trully helpful and the exact information I was looking for. I sincerely appriciated it. I have my Eotech mounted on the S&W M&P15T (Flat top) and that's exactly what I was looking for. At time of purchase I considered an ACOG NS, but I guess I could not keep both my eyes open or find the perfect distance where it was natural to look through and be able to see the reticle properly with my aging eyes. this weapon will be mostly for Home Defense (along with others) but also a good rtansition from HD to further out. the Eotechs just "Pop out" and is extremly is for me to aquire my TGT. Maybe the agoc will come later on a 308 version. Again, thank you VERY much! Outstanding responses!!!! |

I have the EOtech 552 and a DD 7" rail. I can't get the EOtech to straddle the upper and the rail, which means I have no room for mounting other things on my upper (unless I move the EOtech all the way forward onto the DD rail). What mount should I use to move it far enough forward that I can mount the 3x behind it? |

I'm looking at the same setup (EO, 3X, Samson Flip mount), and researching if there is a variable power red dot alternative. TBH, if a Variable ACOG existed, I'd put my EOTech up for sale immediately. If EO would get on the stick with the EO-branded magnifier, I'd look hard at that. Given that I love my EOTech for it's close range superiority, but would like instant availability of a magnified red-dot optic, is there any other practical alternative to the EO/3X/Flip mount solution? |
I had the same problem with my DD rail. The mounting ring blocks the open space between the upper and forward rail. Nothing can mount over the ring. |

Well, Thanks to this forum I decide to add the Aimpoint 3x Magnifier to my EOTech with a Samson Quick flip RT mount. My intend was to purchased it from this furum supporter, but My AR dealer sold me the Mount and the Magnifier for $575, including tax. and through a spare battery for my Eotech. Had to do it....HEre's the pic's. http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a315/coldnerves/ARwithEotech551andAimpoint3xMagnifi.jpg |

Reviving an old thread here. I was intending to wait for the EOTech magnifier (now rumored to be shipping in March) but I have a USPSA competition April 29th so I'm not sure I can get it in time to sight it in. So my question is this, why are you all running the magnifier and EOTech so far forward? Is it because of eye relief w/ the aimpoint or for your BUIS? Since this rifle is for competition I'm not planning to run any kind of BUIS so won't need space for that. I don't have railed handguards at the moment but do not have the larger CAR handguard - regular profile for my (16" barrel w/ mid-length guard/gas system) so I'm guessing the EOTech could stick out over the guard a little bit. Pricing for the EOTech is looking better ($400 for the 3x w/ flip mount, $800 for the 4x) but I have the time crunch issue. Anyway, thoughts on whether I need a railed guard or can I get away w/ my flattop? Thanks, Chris |
