I have helped my father out over the past year with fiancees and other things, so he has decided to buy me a gift to show his appreciation. I refused at first but he said my stag needs a optic. I am leaning heavily towards an Eo-Tech. I wanted to get some feedback from the Eo-Tech guys out there who have them though. I have searched on here and google but the more first hand feedback I can get the better. I am most interested in topics such as, ease of use, durability, target acquisition and is it go for a SHTF situation? Which model is a fan favorite too? I grew up on Aimpoint so i don't have much experience or knowledge about the Eo-tech please inform me!
Thank you |

I have the Eotech 552 and I don't like the buttons on the backside of the optic. I would get a model where they are on the side. That being said I have had great luck with the Eotech. Certainly easy to use the Biden Aiming Concept with. I like mine.
However, I am making a switch on one weapon to the Aimpoint because of the battery life. When the SHTF I want my optic ready to go. I also think that the Aimpoint is more protected against damage. But either one is damn nice. I am just going to have both. |
| I have heard that they are tough optics. Internet stories though of them being dropped from a couple meters and still hold there zero. The one thing that aimpoint has is it battery life. In a SHTF though the Eo-Tech can run for about a month I think? If i am in a SHTF situation for over 2 months or so i would say i might be F@#$ed anyway. |
| The EOTech 512 is their best selling unit. I have seven of them and the rear controls don't bother me a bit. My magnifiers are all FTS so if I need to change settings it very quick. 1000 hour lithium battery life works for me. I always carry spares in my A2 butstocks or pistol grips of carbines. If I need more than that I will probably be the last one on earth. Plus you can always find a couple of AA battery's in a pinch. Love my EOTechs. When you look at a EOTech optics area you are really looking at the protective hood. The optic is under the protective hood. Very solid. |

| Check your email for more info! The 512 is a fairly old model. The 517 essentially was the updated version of e 512 with a raised 7mm integrated base for lower 1/3 co-witnessing and placing the buttons on the side to prevent problems when using a magnifer. Every EOTech I have ever used from the 512 all the way to my current 553 have each been rock solid with NO problems. I really think you can't go wrong with any of their models. Do your homework and check out the differences. I would go straight to their website and just start comparing the different features to see which one best suits your needs or mission requirements. |

I took my personal 552 to Iraq with me. Beat the hell out of it. Never changed its zero (even after being removed and put back on dozens of times) and never changed the batteries. Outstanding optics. We were issued Aimpoints. I used mine briefly during training... hated it and just carried it as a paperweight the whole deployment. My 552 is on my 5.45 rifle right now, with my ACOG on my 20". I've got a few new rifles being built, and most of them will get topped with EOTechs. |

Quoted: looking through the aimpoint i get tunnel vision. Was that one of the reasons you used it as a paper weight? If you took an Eo-tech to Iraq and beat the hell out of it and it worked am sure mine will be ok just sitting in the safe then. Yes. I found that (for me at lest, YMMV), I felt like I had to be directly behind the Aimpoint for it to "work." Perfect sight picture and everything. And then I felt my view was very narrowed. It's great for CQB type stuff, both eyes open etc. But I felt like my EOTech allowed me to reach out a bit further (using it on the qual ranges I hit 300m EVERY time) and it just felt more natural to me. If you can get down to your local range, see if anyone has both. Ask in your Hometown Forum and see if anyone will let you get some range time with both. It was range time and practical shooting with both that showed me an EOTech was the best choice for me. |
