I'm looking at the 557. The information I have says that the ballistic matching recticle is calculated using the ballistic drop characteristics of .223 ammunition. I shoot 5.56; will that throw off the recticle match, or will the results on-target be pretty much the same with either ammo?
ETA: I looked in the "Industry" section for L-3 or Eotech, but couldn't find a forum. Does anyone know who our industry contact would be for Eotech stuff? |
| I'm not expert by any means so take this for whatever it's worth. Any ballistic matching reticle is only going to be an exact match for the specific calliber / load for which it was developed, unless another caliber / load just happens to match by coincidence, which does happen. If the reticle is calibrated for .223 even another .223 load (another bullet weight/power charge/brand etc) isn't going to necessarily have the same bullet path. My guess is that the reticle in the 557 is probably calibrated to match ammo meeting military specs. Having said all that, if you're shooting 300 plus yards with an optic with 1x, any difference in bullet path is probably going to be more than offset by aiming error due to the lack of magnifaciton. In other words, I wouldn't worry too much about it because the reticle calibration can't be much more than a rough guide at best, especially once you get way out there. |
