After reading tons of info on this sight I decided to buy a bushmaster ar15 m4 with a detachable carry handle so I did, then I set to work on building it up. I put a sure fire quad rail on it, vertical grip, and a surefire light with a tape switch. Then came the optic, I wanted it for home defense and busting a few coyotes when I get the chance so I bought a Eotech 512. Last stop was Sportsmans guide, I picked up 2000 rounds and set to work sighting it in, but no matter how many times I try I just cannot get the thing sighted in. I have sighted in dozens of rifles and never had a problem like this.
I can get it on target at any distance and the rifle groups very well, I sighted it in at 50 yards thought I was on the money, but then I took a few 200 yard shots and I was almost 3 feet high! What am I doing wrong? When I go to take a shot I place the center dot on the front post so that it looks just like the letter “i” then I squeeze a round off from the bench rest position.
Please help my only thought is that I may be expecting to much from the Eotech but that still does not explain being high at 200 yards hell before I did the optic my iron sights did better than this but I love the Eotech I want it to work

Ignore your front sight post, thats not how an Eotec works.  It's not a replacement rear sight, it's like a scope.  Try just placing the red not on target regardless of were the front sight appears to be.

I kinda had the same problem with the dot sitting right at the tip of the fsp and I had trouble placing the dot on target. maybe look at getting a Larue or Yankee Hill riser it will put the Irons in the lowr 1/3 of the sight glass that way the dot is unobstructed and you wont notice the irons being in the way.

There is nothing wrong with your Eotech. You are using it incorrectly. Keep both eyes open place the dot on the target (not on top of the FSP) and pull the trigger. With a 50 yard zero, you are good out to 250 yds. Get a YHM or Larue Eotech riser and the FSP will not be an issue for you at all.

I zero at 25 meters on all my MBR's , as this will = POA/POI at 200 . Thats where the sight is set on the M1A .

The EOTECH is zeroed the same , as well as the BUIS ( flip up's ) Same Same for all that way I know where every rifle is hitting .

I suggest installing flip up BUIS , that way your set with the EOTECH and dont have the distraction of the irons . Till that time ignore the iron front sight .

As the others have stated, ignore the FSP when using the EOTech. Place the reticle directly on the target focusing on the target, not the dot. Your sight picture when engaging targets should look similar to this........

That is incorrect for an AR-15.  For example, a 16" barreled carbine using M855 that is zeroed at 25 meters will have a point of impact that is more than 8" higher than the point of aim at 200 meters.
