I have tried the search function and didn't immediately turn up anything so I thought I'd ask what folks thought of Essential Arms' Receivers. I'm thinking of a first build and had been considering a Stag (I am think of a left handed upper), but have run across several references to Essential's stripped receivers and they sure appear to be a heck of a deal.

I thought I'd go ahead and do the lower as I figure out the layout of the upper that I want. Everyone's done such a good job they all look good.

Very good value in a lower. It looks nicer than the Bushmasters i have and about the same as the RRAs. I have two EA now and both have gone together without a hitch. You won't be disappointed.
I believe they make a fine product (the old cast lowers they made were not bad at all, just cast got a bad rap from some shady manufacturers). The lowers they make now are forged, and i think you will see them work their way to big name again.

EA lowers are great, I highly recommend them.

I'm thinking about an EA as well.  If I go with the Toughcoat, and buy a preassembled upper, who would have the best match, or should I just expect to have to have it refinished?

my LMT upper and black toughcoat EA lower match pretty well.

I just used one to build a plain-Jane 20" rifle, and so far, so good. I have not shot it much. The exterior finish is nicer than the Bushmaster I have by far. (Not just the coating, but the metal itself.)
