Just bought a tin of 'El-Cheapo' steel cased Tula/Russian .223..and it works ok in a stainless Mini 14. Have not tried it in anything else.
Was browsing around in the local Atwoods store..and noticed they had big box's of 'Estate' brand .223..didn't look real close(ready to leave)..but probably 400 or 500 round cardboard box of the stuff. I've used Estate brand shotgun shells..and just got a box of Estate brand buckshot...but didn't know they offered rifle ammo. Googled 'Estate .223' and nothing much to show. Searched this ammo forum back 30 days..and no mention of Estate .223 ammo. Anybody know if the stuff is worth taking home? Thanx, Seventeen. Update..was bullshit...True..it was .223 ammo in an 'Estate' box....several boxes actually...but the store had just repacked a bunch of Federal $9.00 a 20 shot box ammo in 16ga shotshell boxes..then stuck a store printed label on it '.223 55gr' Basicaly..they had repacked a bunch of PMC .223 ammo that came in damaged cases..relabeled the shotshell boxs they put the ammo in..and stored them in plain sight under the main ammunition shelves...getting me all jack=off excited. Sorry dudes...I fail.. |

I didn't see a price listed...and didn't even pull the box off the shelf to see how many rounds it contained... I will check it out tommorrow...gotta get dog food.
Anyhow...I googeled Estate ammunition...and all their catalog shows are shotshells. However, I know the online catalog isn't complete..because I just bought a 25 round box of Estate 9 pellet 12ga buckshot..and it ain't listed on their online catalog either.
My guess...it's steel cased Russian like the Herter's .223 I just bought a tin of...but I don't know for sure..that's just a guess. Might be Lake City ball for all I know!. I figured a fellow arfcommer had already fired a jillion rounds of the Estate brand .223...
Will visit store and get more info tommorow...report back. |

When I bought some estate brand .30-06 and .30-30 ammo several years back it was loaded with Speer "hot core" JSP projectiles, brass cases with estate headstamp and in plastic cartridge belt carriers very simular to those used by Federal.
I've been very happy with the estate .30-06 ammo. smooth estaction of fired cases from my custom 1903 sporter and very good accuracy. Some mail order firms back then Claimed Estate ceterfire rifle ammo was actually produced by Federal. |

I have some Estate brand 7mm-08 loaded w/Speer Grand Slams and some 300 Win Mag loaded with Speer Hot-Cor. It shoots as well as any other factory stuff I have tried. Good brass too, reloaded the 300 mag quite a bit.
Looks like I will be heading to Atwoods tomorrow to try out some of the 223. |

Estate is manufactured by Federal. They have the same address, and there is only one commercial ammo manufacturer in Anoka, MN that I know of. Estates address is Willis, Texas on all the centerfire ammo i have Estates did manufacture shotgun shells in Willis until they where bought out by Federal a few years ago. I still have a few cases of their shotgun shells that I picked up from their place. |
