Today I set up the sights on my LMT upper w/ LMT BUIS. It needed 9 clicks to the left. Would that be considered excessive? Will that cause any problems? I dont really want to send it back. And the iron sights are only back up, I'm going to be putting an aimpoint on it.... Oh yea I fired 100 or so rounds and it was 100% reliable, no malfunctions of any kind. I'm using the LMT enhanced bolt/carrier group. |

The excessive windage is usually caused by the the way the front sight post is indexed in realation to the barrel extension. The barrel extension has a pin which lines up the barrel into the receiver. If the front sight post is off a tad this will cause you to have the excessive windage adjustments to get the rifle zeroed. It will not hurt anything, once you are dialed in it will stay that way. Have fun with your new toy! |

I'd personally find 9 clicks from a high dollar upper like an LMT completely unacceptable... GI armorers are limited to 8 clicks as I recall... "Too much windage" is due to the barrel twisting as the nut is tightened, forcing the steel pin on the top of the barrel into the left side of the channel on the upper.... Send it back... |
dunno.... but yea mine is the same, 8 clicks and close but not touching the first hash mark to the left. I was doing IBZ... and for the elevation you have to go four clicks, not 2 down from 6/3 on the LMT BUIS... so windage adjustment might be finer than regular A2 sights too. Zeroing at 50 yds with iron sights is a pain in the balls! THis is the frst time I used IBZ I have only zeroed ARs at 25 yds before. I had to switch targets too cuz the one I was using (standard sight in target... with the big crosshair and diamond in the middle) I wasnt getting a good sight picture with. I just went to a standard bullseye and had an easier time. then when I was finally done, I stood up off the bench and blazed a silouhette target at 25 yds... semi-rapid fire, all shots in the x and 10 ring and I didnt notice ANY muzzle flash at all with the Vortex. |
I would agree to that but only if that damn barrel was way over torqued. I believe it is only supposed to be at 35 Ft.Lbs. I also agree if those are 1/2 MOA adjustments on your sight then I probably would'nt be too happy after dishing out the big money for that upper. If you built it yourself and had a few little problems then I could deal with it, it's my own doing and that comes with the hobby, but to pay big money and have it not be 100% is not acceptable too me. If your sight is 1/4 MOA then it probably is'nt too far out of wack. |
no. it does not require more adjustment at longer ranges. The reason you are adjusting the windage on your rifle when you sight it in is because the front and rear sights are not lining up properly, because the front sight base is not perfectly straight, which is causing the rifle to aim a little to the right or left (almost always right). Once you adjust the rear so it matches up with the front, and the rifle is shooting point of aim, it will shoot point of aim (windage wise) no matter the distance. If it is a little off at 25 meters, it will be more off at 50, even more at 100, and so on. But thats the reason you "sight in" the rifle in the first place. |
