I'm coming over from the AK-47.net and looking to expand my collection. I'm a big AK fan and owner and also involved with C&R milsup firearms. Now lets talk ARs. I carried a M-16 in VN so I'm familiar with the 5.56/.223 care and feeding. But WOW their are so many different manufactures/models to choose from. Here are some of the issues in making a decision on which AR model to go with. Did I forget to mention that I have already decided on Bushmaster...how2. My intended use is, home defense, plinking and possibly NRA High Power Rifle competition. Would this rule out a M4? 3. I also like the idea of having an option to use optics in the future, so a A3 flat-top is appealing. Here are the specific models: XM15-E2S 16" M4 A2 Carbine XM15-E2S 20" A3 Heavy Bbl Rifle XM15-E2S 20" A2 Heavy Bbl Rifle Please give me your views or other possible options. |

1. go to gunbroker.com, although you are not buying the gun through them they do have a listing of ffl's by their proximity to you. this tells you right off hand their fee for transfers, and most often, outright purchases as well. 2. I don't do competition, so i got an a3 (bushmasters designation for removable handle rifles) i also got the 20" version as it suited me better, beyond the competition rule for the a2 type sights, its all personal preference. i dont know about length designations for competition. 3. as earlier mentioned i opted for the bushmaster ms15 e2s 20" a3 and after the fact i cant think of another gun that i would have liked any better. mine has performed flawlessly and i intend to test it further as i have bought two combo packs from ammoman.com (1000 rounds lake city + 100 rounds red tracer for $230 delivered) good luck, good shooting, and i believe you have made the right choice in bushmaster and i put in my vote for an a3 20" |
