How does this happen? Weapon Wasr10. Maybe 1000 round count total. Ammo Tula 7.62x39. Nephew was shooting gun and somehow (it was his first time shooting ANY weapon) knew that something wasn't right and got the gun safe. He had fired maybe 20 rounds and this one had a light report and almost no recoil. I heard the greatly diminished sound and figured we had a squib. No squib, bullet cleared the barrel. Had to drive the case out with a cleaning rod. So, what could have happened to blow the case up like this? I would figure an overcharged or binary load, but why would the report and recoil be so pronouncedly mild? How could the case be blown apart this badly? Wouldn't the chamber have contained it better? It seemed to be fully seated, but possibly an early primer strike touched it off before the chamber had it contained? I know this is an AK question, but that forum isn't nearly as active as this side and I kind of figure a blown cartridge is a blown cartridge. Thanks for any help. |

Jesus Christ! I CANNOT believe believe that 1) the wrong ammo got loaded in the weapon, 2) that it actually chambered and fired, 3) that I carried that cartridge around in my pocket for a day without realizing what had happened, AND 4) that I then took pictures and then posted them without realizing that this is what happens when you put .223 in a 7.62 barrel. Epic asshattery on my part. I am dissapoint with myself. This shit is epic. First poster, thank you. I'm not worthy.

Did you have more than one rifle and ammo type out at the same time around un-experianced shooters? If so, that was your root cause. MLG |

Shit, at this point I'm about half-way surprised that some .45 or 9mm didn't find it's way into the AK. |

I am surprised that the bolt would grab onto a 5.56 since it is a smaller diameter. I agree with the OP that I would think it wouldn't chamber either. I could see a 6.5 grendel, but not a 5.56.
Sorry for the explosion there. Glad you and the gun are okay. How is your underwear... need replacing after that incident? How loud was it? |
I had this happen before by accident. A family member was loading AK magazines for me and accidentally slipped in a .223 round ( ). I happened to shoot that mag while test firing a newly built AK. There was no recoil felt. Thankfully the barrel was not damaged. Here is the casing. |
