| I'm just curious, what is the practical reason for getting, say, an 11.5" barrel and then a 4.5" pinned FH to avoid the tax stamp? From a performance point-of-view, would not a 14.5 + FH or 16" + unpinned FH barrel always deliver superior ballistics? Just curious. |

Because some people are not worried about a loss of a couple of hundred FPS on a paper-puncher, and they like the shorty look. If they ever do have to shoot someone with that combo, it will still hurt. |

I understand the aesthetics of it all, maybe I should invent a 16" barrell that LOOKS like an 11.5" + FH .
I was just wondering if there was any sort of practical reason for the setup, to satisfy my curiosity Purely a replica. The original "shorty" had a 10 1/2" barrel but it was to loud and to much flash. The "solution" was to stick a 4 1/2" or so "moderator" on the end of the barrel. The solution(moderator) negated the advantage of the problem (short barrel) when in the end a 14 1/2" or 16" barrel would have done the same exact thing. The XM 177E1 and E2 are cool looking but in actuality Rube Goldburg contraptions. |
