Started to have fail to eject issues last time shooting. Pretty sure my extractor spring is broke, but to be honest this is the first time I had it out of the bolt so here I am to get educated. Also does the extractor itself look wore? Maybe I should order one just to have a spare on hand if I need a spring.

Colt gold spring or the Sprinco 5 coil springs are the best. Use the black insert only with these particular springs. If you buy a standard, mil-spec extractor spring, you can use either the O-ring or the insert but you are not supposed to use both. For me personally, All my guns get the Sprico 5 coil extractor spring with the black insert. I buy them by the 3 pack from Brownells. |

I'm going to order some springs to have on hand. If I get a chance to go to range tomorrow I'll see if it is working any better after a cleaning. I was shooting steel case ammo which might be part of the issue as well. I will be sure to take photos of I have another issue. |

Use your fingernail to scrap upwards on the extractor ledge. It should feel sharp/ not smooth. Factory extractor springs are wear items that should be changed on regular intervals. They are very cheap and easy. I would get the Sprinco 5 coil spring with your 16in barrel and only use the insert, not the oring or both. How does the ejector tension feel? Is it mushy or does it have good tension? It would not hurt to replace that spring as well. I would recommend the Sprinco ejector/ safety detent springs as well. |

As you can see, crud does build up in there, which eventually impedes function. It's also a good time to examine the spring and claw. Only takes an extra 30 seconds. |
