I just took delivery of a Taccom extractor. I've misplaced my manual and don't see a way of removing the retention pin without disassembling the bolt assembly. If this is so, How do I safely separate the rails so that I can remove the collar, replace the extractor and then reassemble. I'm sorry if this is obvious but I have searched around without results.

Gord Pull the bolt back and wrap one hand around the rail and hold the bolt back. Very carefully with a finger and thumb of that hand pull the rails apart just enough to enable wiggling the collar off with the other hand. Keep the hand thats on the bolt in place to slowly allow the bolt to move off the rails. Catching it as it comes off with the other hand. The guide rod and spring will also come off. The pin if it's a CMMG Bolt will only come out the bottom. All other Manufacturer's bolts use a roll pin to retain the extractor. Make sure the extractor spring is in place either way when you reassemble the extractor in the bolt. Reassemble the bolt carefully make sure the pin is far enough though to clear when the bolt goes on the rails. Again only spreading the rails enough to wiggle the collar back in place and you're done. Dave S |

Thanks Dave,
I was concerned about dis assembly as I had seen warnings that applied to the conversion. I'll get to the job after reading the news and getting my first coffee into the blood stream. Gord Update: The job is done but not tested. It was easier than I thought except for stabilizing the bolt while knocking the retention pin out. Thanks again! Gord |
