I was wondering if you guys could give me a hand.  I'm looking for a FF midlength rail system for my RRA.  I like the SIR 58, but I'm not sure about the barrel removal. (makes me nervous, never done it)  What others are there?  I know DD has one.  There is the RAS right, but it's no longer made, and wont work with a standard FS?  There's the FIRSH.  Anything else?  I'm looking for quality, as I don't plan to replace it.  I also would prefer to use the standard FS, and the muzzle break is permenant.  Thanks guys.

Steve,

I bought my upper from you.  Do you stock these?  Can you use the Std FS? (It looks like it in the pic) What do these run as far as cost?

-Hershey

Nevermind, I see from the tacked post you can use the FS.  What's the cost though, and do you stock em?

You don't have to remove the barrel with their #58 mod. Just use a demel tool to cut off the thin alum ring like most of us have done. A pair of needle nose pliers get the flat spring out. It takes about 5 minutes. No big deal.

I carry them, but have never been able to keep them in stock long enough to list them on the web site. I placed a large order at SHOT which I'm expecting to arrive in the next day or two.

Pricing and availability can be followed from the link below

If you don't want to have to remove the barrel and want a free float, then the only two are the KAC RAS2 and the SIR, but the RAS2 only comes in standard length. That leaves the SIR slim line, bi level mid length 58 abilities which I prefer anyways.

Daniel Defense 9.0 is the best thing out there for a mid length IMHO.

I scratched the barrel putting a BOTD can on it yesterday (Dumb) - I have a buddy that does K-G and he says he can fix it.  Instead of waiting I was the archtypical kid int he candy store and had to shoot it - then had to see if the cans would go on...

Though my buddy tried to shoot some Engle subsonic and I forbid him - good thing for he shot it out of another gun and sure enough a SQUIB (I'd have been in jail if that was squibbed by him...)  Turns out it was a condemned lot for Engle...

Great looking guns guys!  I like the DD forearm, nice looking and a little cheaper than the SIR.  I do have a concern about installation though, as my MB is permanent.  Hey, Steve!  How permanent is this thing?  You put it on!  I like the SIR cause I wont have to remove the MB to install it, and according to many on this site I wont even have to remove the FS.  Did I miss any foreends though?  Jeff, from CMMG sent me an email about a FIRSH.  It looks nice, I like the apparently uniterupted rail, (the price is nice too) but I wonder about its quality for $130.  Not to sure about the mounting setup either, not sure I understand how it attaches.  What are ya'lls thoughts on rail systems like the FIRSH and those by YHM?  Right now my top choices are the SIR and DD.

The pin can be drilled out, so it can come off. I like the DD. Its slimmer, lighter, and doesnt "almost" require the #40.  The SIR is the easiest to install.
PRi is a good choice for mid length too.

Well

I must say I did not really shoot it for groups

I shot 5rds so far of Mk262 to zero the scope @100m on a fig11 tgt.

I have been waiting on a lower specifically for this guy and it is not here yet :(

We are doing some more shooting wednesday and I will get back to you with a status report.

The FIRSH is not free float.
Good shootin, Jack

Bullshit. The FIRSH is as true free-float as a FFRAS. That's not sayin that its as good of a system, but... It IS freefloat.

Quickly becoming old technology, but I am still a big fan of my Knight’s Medium Free Float RAS.
