Well, I have decided to do the free-float thing on my first SBR build (paperwork sent off a few months ago). I am planning on going with an 11.5"bbl, and decided to do a free-float rail forend - something I have not experimented with previously. Basically, I want to add a simple light setup (was thinking of the TRL-1), rail mounted flip front sight, and will play with a VFG for the first time. I was thinking a 9" or maybe longer FF rail with a low profile gas block. I have put on a few barrels with good succes, but was thinking the simpler the better. A friend recommended the Samson 9", saying it was simple to put on, good quality and solid. Basically, I want to know if this system is simple enough for a guy with only 2 builds under his belt to manage? Also, are there any pitfalls? How long on a rail can I go before running out of room on a 11.5" bbl? Weight is not a huge concern - the car I will carry it in rarely gets tired, and most of the warrants I serve are over in a matter of minutes. Price is an object - got on ARF about a year ago, and have bought two AR's since then, and my wife is getting tired of me spending her money (which I make) on these toys. I don't want cheap, but I won't lose sleep over not having the greatest name out there either. So - recommendations are appreciated, but please explain. Saying "X brand because it's the best" really doesn't help. Thanks in advance. |
