I'm sure this has been asked before, so please forgive me.  I'm relatively new here and I've tried searches here and on google to find an accurate answer and I keep getting conflicting stories.  I'm collecting parts for an FN A2 build.  I have a barrel and BCG.  I'm looking for a correctly marked upper.  I see some people use "FK" marked uppers in some places there ID'd as FN and in other there Bushmaster.  Can anyone clarify this for me?  If these aren't correct for an FN build then which markings would be?  Thanks

FK is NOT Bushmaster

FK = (F)N + (K)aiser Aluminum

Both markings shown in the first picture of this ad from the EE are correct.

ETA: Personally I like the marking on the bottom receiver better for some reason.

I agree with you and I've bought some m14 barrels from that seller, his stuff in my experience has been topshelf.  I appreciate the feedback so far.  Anyone know where the information regarding the FK marked uppers being bushmaster comes from.  Every search I've done is comes up 50/50 FN/Kaiser or bushmaster and I'm trying to get to the root of it for my personal knowledge.

Probably comes from Bushmaster rifles being sold with those uppers on them.

IF "F K" marked uppers are indeed correct for FN, then I'm of the belief that Bushmaster either used some FN forgings or else some FN-made upper receivers to complete some rifles at some point. Or else someone else out there was putting those uppers on some Bushmaster lowers, probably to finish rifles before the ban cutoff. My just-barely preban A2 upper Bushmaster had an F K marked upper.

When did FN have mil contract making M16? maybe at that time frame both FN and BM are using the same source?. During the Clinton era, I bought an A2 upper direct from BM Maine with FK markings.

“As you noted FK and FM have been sold in years past through Bushmaster and the code has been attributed to them, which would seem to cause some confusion with the FN pieces. Though both answers are right by the way.

Short explanation is that these F coded blanks (unmachined) forgings were originally produced to fulfill FN contracts and the overruns were subsequently sold and finished by Bushmaster. FN eventually contracted their various suppliers for un-F coded blanks and stamped the F into the finished receiver only after it passed QC. Though I've seen some FN produced A4's of late that have resorted back to using a forged in F.”

I have an FN upper half marked exactly the same, but in jet black, and an FN upper half with a  F and split A (Anchor Harvey), also Jet black. Anybody seen a grey LK marked upper half with a C MP barrel, if I remember correct these were FN contract replacement receivers.

Thank you for this explantion.  This also explains the keyhole upper with a stamped "F" rather than the raised "FK" on my other upper.  Thank You
