Hi, Which material is the lower part of an AR made from, and are different manufacturer using different materials. thanks. |

Standard lower is made from forged 7071 Aluminum Early lowers and some 'retro reproductions' were made from 6061 Aluminum. There were some companies that cast lowers in aluminum (notably Oly and DPMS). Olympic Arms also made some lowers from Titanium a few years back. DPMS also offered a cast stainless steel lower (they might still offer it). Of course Bushmaster & Vulcan offer lowers made from Carbon Fiber reenforced resin. Cav Arms makes lowers from a polymer (nylon 6 IIRC) that include build in pistol grips and A1 length stock. |
