| I am trying to get the pins out of the FSB on my RRA Entry Tactical... they don't seem to wanna budge at all... Any suggestions that aren't cutting it off? |
| Tapers go in right to left don't they (been a while)? Anyhoo, use a brass punch and one of those plastic/ rubber tipped hammers to dislodge. Also duct tape all around the pins (especially if you don't use a brass punch). And you want to support it with something as was said previously. Small blocks of wood will probably do ya. |

Just had this problem. This is what worked for me on the toughest SOB.
1) Buy a drilling hammer (3lb head) Looks like a mini sledgehammer 2) Buy some PB Penetrating Oil and shoot that on the pin and let sit for about 10 mins. 3) Buy a good nail punch that is bigger than the pin to get it started. Then switch to smaller punch. Getting it started is the hardest problem. Use some 2x4's to support barrel and FSB. And pound out. Usually they are tappered so knock it out from the left (muzzle on left, butt stock on right when knocking it out). If it doesn't move after about 5 good whacks. Put some more oil and repeat. If at all possible DON'T cut it. Be patient with the pounding and get the right tools. Cutting it is a pain in the ass. |

putting on a FF handguard and need the barrel nut out to replace with supplied one from hanguard. got the tool but no vice at this house so the block is outta the question Going to be really hard (if not impossible) to break free without a vise to clamp it down in .. not to mention being able to torque the new nut to specs.

Kind of like changing a tire without a jack. |

Yeah having the right tools for the job can make all the difference. For those roll pins, there are special roll pin punches that have a center nipple on them. I have seen many people try and use a nail set to punch them out. What you end up doing is driving the tip into the center of the roll pin and when you hit it with a hammer you are spreading the pin out even tighter in the hole. I also use a " dead blow" hammer. They really make a huge difference. I know you already got it out, but thought somebody else might be able to use it. It will also help for reassembly.

What is the socket for? |
i think im done... there will not be a free float handguard middy looking rifle for me unless i buy one... after all the struggling with getting the pins out, i finally di. but when i got to the barrel nut... that MF'er is not comming out unless i take it to an armorer... so much force i spread 2 teeth... stupid RRA!

You have to be able to push in on the barrel nut with the wrench before loosening the nut. It would be damn near impossible without a vice. |

Not really. It just means there was more than enough force to bend several teeth. Probably from a crooked or slipping wrench. It's not the RRA, it is the method you are using.
You should have the gas tube out since you have the FSB off. With the gas tube out you can spin the slip ring so the gap (the part with the plier holes) is to the side and use some slip ring pliers to release it. This won't take the Delta ring off, but it will release the spring tension on the Delta ring so it stays out of the way of the wrench. However, taking it to an armorer and having them do it may be easier and less frustrating since you don't have a vice or a receiver clamp. |
Well after almost 10 hours finally got everything squared away!!!

What is the socket for? To support the back side of the FSB, such that the pin goes through the socket hole as it's hammered out. |
| For future reference, try soaking the FSB pins in PB blaster for a couple of days. Then try and hammer them out with a brass punch. If that doesn't work take a torch to the opposite side that you are hammering on and heat the pins up.I had to do this to get an old A1 FSB off that had a little rust. |
