I just purchased a used barrel for a match rifle I'm building. It had a standard FSB on it at one time (I just got the stripped barrel) but there are no slots drilled where the cross pins would be. There is a little indentation on the barrel opposit the gas hole. I'm guessing the FSB was held on with a single set screw. Has anyone seen this done before? Is it strong enough if I buy a new FSB and drill it for a set screw? Anyone have any instructions or anything to help me out?

Thanks,Tony

It's likely held on by a setscrew on the bottom.  Not a configuration I'd take into battle, but probably stable enough for range shooting.

There is a gasblock/flip up sight combo by yhm that's good if you are into that sort of thing.  I just put one on my M4 and I like it a lot.  Once you get it set into place and lock the threads down it won't move.  Its probably not as durable as a stock FSB with the 2 pin arrangement (I can attest to this based on trying to remove one) but its better than a single set-screw.  They are about $80.

Armalite has a "clamp-on" FSB, works pretty well.
