The used barrel I bought came with a really crappy gas block.  I took it off and want to put on a normal FSB.  I was wondering what size FSB I would need to accomodate a Colt 20" hbar.  Also, will a used FSB line up with the holes already pre drilled in the barrel?  Or do I need to drill new holes in the FSB or Barrel?

All help appreciated

Thanks.

size is .750''

a used one wont fit your barre's hole
luckly people like ADCO can mount a new FSB for you

Your barrel more than likely would use a .750" inside diameter FSB.

And there is a 99.99% chance that a predrilled FSB will not line up with the existing holes in your barrel.

Best to get an undrilled FSB or a clamp on style.

Does have a link to a tutorial describing how to install a front sight base using the set screw method?

How hard would it be to drill a FSB to match the holes in my barrel?

One tutorial, coming up:

Lots of pics here; look on page two for the set screw mod.

Just take your new FSB and drill/tap it for ether a #8 or #10 machine screw thread. Might want to stick a 3/4" diameter wooden down in it first and ream the holes first.

Best to do this in  a drill press. (hint)

Then, once you have the hole centered, tap the holes and use some thread cutting oil as well.

Home Depot and Lowes both sell set screws with HEX heads. You want the non-coated/plated type if you can find them. Put a small chamfer on the ends so that the threads don't get messed up.

You can make it look "pretty" by swabbing on some JB-Weld over the screw holes.

This is NOT gunsmith quality workmanship. Just enough to get the thing so it will work and not walk off the front of your barrel.

Is there a tutorial that will show me how to properly drill a FSB in order to match the grooves already cut in my barrel?

It's highly unlikely they would.

Not without a milling machine with a DRO.
