I have a 6.5 grendel I am putting ymh ff tube on, my question is, I have removed the FSB pins and the small pin that holds the gas tube in ,how hard should it be to now remove the FSB? it seems like it is really on there good and I dont want to bang it up, I looked at the build it yourself guide and it said just wiggle it back and forth untill it comes off but I cant move mine at all.....any help? thanks guys.hinking.gif |
| ok I tried the 2x4 idea and still wont budge, could not figure out the screwdriver thing then realized that I said FSB ooops not FSB just gas block no sight involved, I removed the gas tube roll pin and tried to back the gas tube out toward the reciever but it was not moving either and didnt want to ruin it, I banged on the gas block using hammer and 2x4 ended up just bending the metal ring that holds the hand guards on, it seems to be attached to the gas block because even though it is bent it will not move at all either.ARRRRGGGHHHH!!!! any ideas guys? |

-Do you have the upper receiver in a vice (with a vice block of course) ? This is key!!! -Double check to make sure you don't have any set screws anyplace underneath holding the gas block on. (seems obvious, but you never know) -As mentioned above, try to lubricate it to break it free (penetrating oil, WD40, etc) if nothing else, soak the whole front end in CLP for a few hours. -There is a tool that you buy to properly clamp on to the gas tube to aid in removeal. (for mine, I VERY LIGHTLY grab the gas tube with a pair of pliers AND VERY LIGHTLY tap on the pliers with a small hammer and it comes right out. MAKE SURE NOT TO BEND OR GOUGE ANYTHING!! -DON'T BEND ANYTHING!! -DON'T BEND ANYTHING!! Can you post of a pic? Gene ETA: I type slow

Is the gas tube out? ETA: Since you are putting a FF tube on, you won't need to use the handguard cap. Since you already bent the handguard cap, don't worry about it. (you may be able to flatten it back out later) Let is soak for a while and then try it again. If you have a lot of rounds through it, there may be some carbon build up which will keep it from wanting to come off easy (I think that's already been mentioned..) Good luck, Gene |
