You don't NEED a vice for most things gun-related but one would definitely help. Some may say  but I built a complete upper with only basic hand tools, no vise or torque wrench.
Use common sense and don't try to torque the hell out of it. Just get it timed correctly while fairly tight. If you think this is too difficult then take it to a local gunsmith ad he should be able to do it for you in under 5min for $5 if not free. |

I just installed mine, and no vice was needed. It came with a set of shims. One thick, eight thin, and one ultra thin. The instruction are to get the compensator about 20 to 30 degrees hand tight from index and then use a wrench until it's index. 20 to 30 degrees on the wrench is not that much Torque. I printed the picture,on this Link, on transparent paper to make sure I had the angle right. I also thought it would be good to have in my tool box, I don't like to guess if I don't have too. My FSC 30 just came with a crush washer and you simply tightened it until it lined up right and that was it. |

Or will the threads be all screwed up? You may want to ask in the ADCO Forum. You may get a quicker reply. I have seen a post where they cut the pinned on brake and able to add a new one. Question for you, are you in a ban state or are you looking to un-ban your AR that was bought during the Assault Weapons Ban? You may not want it sent back to you with threaded barrel if you live in a ban sate. Depending on your stat's law a threaded barrel may be trouble. |
