I have looked at many of the subjects of FTEs. I have not been able to locate any information or possible causes/solutions to my particular problem of the rims being pulled off the case upon firing my AR Pistol.  I have checked the chamber for any roughness and there is none. I have a machinist, welding and gunsmithing background. This is not my first AR build but this is the first time I have ever encountered this problem.

I have tried several mfg of ammo and projectile weights. There have been none that will not pull off the rims. Would using an adjustable gas block be a possible solution? Ideas and input would be appreciated.

What kind of ammo are you using? The lacquer coated cases can leave residue behind that can make an empty stick. If this is the case use paint thinner to clean the chamber and see what happens.

If it's cycling fine, meaning not short cycling, I would try a heavier buffer. It sounds like the action is trying to pull the rounds out while they are still expanded and under pressure.

I have not used any steel cases only brass, std milspec, IMI and Winchester, factory 55gr, 62gr and some Georgia Arms 55gr. All have pulled off rims so a heavier buffer may work. I am positively not short cycling.

Try a heavier buffer. I run an H2. It may slow the action down enough to let the brass retract enough for the extractor to pull it out without pulling through the rim.
