I have a flat top upper on order and plan on having MI buis on the rifle, do I need a F marked front sight or can I get by with a standard front sight?

You need an F marked FSB if you're running a carbine gas system.

It doesn't matter if you have a flat top upper.

You could use either type of front sight, if you use the standard one, when you zero it and your grouping stays high with your front sight blade all the way up, then you might need a long (high) front sight post from Bushmaster or M&A Parts.

I called Del-Ton and they said that the F marked sight is not an option with a light weight barrel.  So I guess I am getting the standard one.  Thanks for the replies.

No problem. Simply get the higher blade. That was original solution to the problem, all the way back to the Viet Nam War.

I just had a similar problem with my Bushmaster. I put a LaRue BUIS on it and could not get enough adjustment out of the front sight post. Bought a .040 taller front post from Bushmaster and problem solved.

I just looked at a buddy's unmodified A2 20" post ban Bushmaster...it had an "F" front sight base, but a shortened front sight post in it. So even the manufacturers will use either, because it is so easily remedied by just changing posts.
