I built my first AR with PSA LPK and a PK firearms upper.

In my quest for cheap ammo, I have purchased about 120 rounds of  AR223 ammo by American Eagle and 40 rounds Tulammo.   The Tulammo was horrible, I had almost a 30% failure to fire with some that looked like soft strikes on the primer.   I ran the non fires through my friends Remington 700 and he got half of those to fire and 4 he couldn't even close the bolt the rest would not fire.   I ran some blackhills and fiocchi through my AR and had no issues from either of the ammo.

Last weekend I brought 80 rounds of the AE AR223 to the range.  I only had time to shoot 40 rounds.   About every 3rd round failed to fire.   I cycled the bolt and fired the next round.  It was kind of frustrating.   Of the 13 or so that did not fire the first time, I could not get 6 of the 13 to fire on the second try in my rifle.  My friend was able to get 2 of the 6 to fire his Remington 700 and the remaining 4 I chalked up as non-fireable.

Has anyone had similar experiences with these types of Ammo?   The Fiocchi Vmax ammo I have has not had issues.   I am not ruling out it could be my rifle.

Any comments would be appreciated.   I am wondering if a stronger hammer spring would help.

Edit:  I should point out the AR223 ammo gave me a very nice grouping at 75 yards.

I do not think its the ammo.
Especially since its happening with 2 different types.

Something is up with your hammer spring or firing pin or something.

Are the legs on your hammer spring resting on top of the trigger pin? If not you'll have light strikes. Quick to check and almost as quick to correct.

I am pretty sure the hammer spring is installed correctly.   I'll post a photo this evening though.

That's what they all say.

Light strikes are pretty uncommon with a correctly installed spring, but there are other possibilities.

I did have a hammer spring go bad on me.  If it isn't on backwards, a new spring is pretty cheap.  Hopefully it is an easy fix.

So upon inspection, the hammer spring may not be right.

If the legs are looping from over the top, yes it is wrong. They should be coming from off the bottom.

That's backwards.

Ok, I flipped the spring so that the legs now come from underneath and rest ontop of the trigger pin.   The hammer seems to feel heavier now.   Trigger pull is a little stronger now, but not much.

Thanks everyone for pointing out my faults!

If this doesn't work, then I'll upgrade the spring to the wolf heavy, but I think flipping the spring is really all that I needed to do.

That should be all you need to do. I speak from experience.
