I finally finished assembling my 7.62x39 AR and was able to put some rounds through it.  This occurred with TulAmmo and it's my intention that I be able to feed this rifle anything.

In the picture, the upper round ejected perfectly but is clearly deformed and lightly scratched.  The lower round failed to eject and has those deep scratches.

The failures to eject occurred about every three to five shots after a flawless first 8, including one stovepipe.  With they other failures, the bolt was impossibly hard to slide back and I had to strike the butt of the rifle on the ground to get it to release.

Any idea what is going on here?  Are those scratches normal?

What kind of barrel, gas system, and buffer are you using? I don't think the scratched/gouged cases are normal, but they do get scratched up and dented when the rifle malfunctions. -W

ETA: it sounds like it should be a normally functioning system. I know nothing about the adjustable gas blocks. Not for installation, cleaning, repair any of it. There are some troubleshooting checklists and helpful AR gurus in the troubleshooting section here. Torubleshooting I would ask there as well. -W

It has a SAA 16" carbine gas barrel.  Standard buffer and spring on a collapsible stock from PSA.  Im also using a Seekins adjustable gas block which I tried at several different positions.

I did have a few failure to feeds but assume I just need to work on the magazine to fix that.
